Finally Up to Date

OK, so this is August at 9 weeks old. It has flown by. It's been fun and tiring and mostly exciting so far. Casey and Kate are totally and completely in love with this little boy. Casey started calling him Augie-Froggy at some point, and Kate joined in, and then it got shortened to Frog. So August has a nick-name. The last week has been pretty exciting as far as baby life goes. August started smiling and he's moved into his crib (this just about broke Kate's heart until she realized that she really did sleep better without him making baby noises right next to her all night). Now if he would only sleep for more than three hours in a row. Three hours is actually a lot of August.

We would love to hear from people as we work on the blog. Much love to all!

October was a good month

August manages to get his thumb and/or other parts of his hand in his mouth on occasion. We think he may be a pipe smoker later in life.
Our little Norse beauty.
Aa came to visit. Kate's a little worried about what he may be telling August here.
This is August's tree. We planted it in our front yard. It's a Louisa Weeping Crab.

Pumpkins and Apples

This is Augie's first trip to the pumpkin patch/apple orchard. We went with the Cronk family. Beth and Kate and the babies let the guys do the apple picking--we just ate them.

Here we have Grover and Zion in Grover's favorite chair--the chair went when the baby came (we're pretty sure it was a health hazard, but Grover has made himself comfortable by sleeping on the couch at night. He's kind enough to stay off of it during the day because he knows he's not supposed to be on it.)
Awe. Kate's favorite pic.

We're just trying to get all of these cute pictures up for people to see. Then, we can start keeeping you all more up to date on Augie's life.

The Beginning

In the beginning there was just Casey and Kate (and Grover, Chloe, and Zion), but then on August 23rd, August was added to the equation and suddenly what was once just a couple was now a family. August Andersen Maude was born a month early.

We were shocked and scared when Kate's doctor told us at a routine visit that Kate was going to have to be induced that night (preeclampsia). It was a Friday afternoon, and we had been trying to decide where we were going to go eat that night--induction was not on the docket. There was some crying and some picture taking (we didn't have any "belly pictures" so our doctor took some for us), and then Kate was wheeled from the clinic to the hospital. Casey ran home to get some things and to take Grover over to Beth and Jeff's while Kate was hooked up to IV's and monitors. We'll spare you all the gory details, but at 10:50 the next morning August came out screaming--we were relieved by the sound and the fact that August was so healthy. He weighed 6lbs, 2oz. He was perfect.

We were in the hospital another 3 nights because of Kate's blood pressure and because August lost more than 10% of his body weight. When we finally got home everything was fabulous. We were so lucky to have family and friends close by--making us food, doing our laundry, and cleaning up our house (Thank you!). We spent most of our time just lying around, staring at August.

The Adventures of Augie Maude

Hey everyone!
So, some people have been on us to create a blog for August (Augie). We are not really technologically savvy (savvy in other ways, yes, but not with technology). We don't even have Internet access at our house except for the mystery wireless connection we get on occasion. But, we figured some people, both near and far, would like updates on August's life. So here begins the "Aug-Blog."
Much love,
Casey and Kate (and August too)
