Augie Now

Here's Academic Augie--the outfit was a gift from Sheri (clearly she knew how smart he would be!)

He's got natural talent--you can tell by the look in his eyes.

Favorite place to play--in the tupperware lid drawer. He's got a thing for lids.

Well, I have had a horrible time uploading photos--that's why it's taken almost three months to get Augie's birthday photos posted. Our computer is running Sloooowwwwly.

Augie has only gotten cuter in the past several months--"impossible," you say? Well, it's true, and it's not just because I'm his mother that I say that. He's really funny, and he's talking up a storm. He knows some good words like "car" and "light" and he's learned quite a few signs (more, eat, hat, all done). He also started walking about a month ago. He's getting fast. Between chasing Augie around, trying to keep Grover's water in the dog dish, wrestling Augie during diaper changes, and grading papers, Casey and I are exhausted. But, the fall semester is almost over, and then we can just focus on the first three items in that list (at least for a few weeks).

Augie Turns One!

Yes, he did it. He turned one. And, thanks to the friends and family helping us celebrate, I wasn't even weepy when it happened. Despite the mosquitoe population errupting right before the party, we had a lot of fun. The grandparents were there (of course!), and the aunts and uncles who could be there were there, and some of Augie's friends, and even the great-grandmas made it.

Our Trip to the East

We had a great vacation. We traveled by car to see our friends in Virginia and then we moved on to North Carolina for a few days. It was a LOOOONG trip--3 days to get there--but it was a lot of fun, and we are glad Augie got to meet these very important people.

This is us in North Carolina--a rainy day picnic.

Augie ready to leave the hotel.

Tamsin and Augie.

Augie exhausted in the park. We were all just hanging out like old times. Even Augie.

What?! Another Month Gone....

How can it be that an entire month has passed? Augie is well on his way to a year now. We will be having a little celebration in just a couple of weeks. It doesn't seem possible, but you all know that.

We are gearing up here for a trip to Virginia to see some friends from grad school. We are going to be staying with our friend Aaron and his girlfriend and her daughter (whom we are very excited to meet for the first time). Our friends Matt and Nair are coming down from Mass. and we will also get to see our friend Allison and her new baby Eli. It's been roughly a year since we've seen everyone. We are a little nervous about the car ride with Augie--it's a long way to Virginia. But, we plan to take it slow and stop when necessary. Please send your smooth-sailing vibes our way.

What else....Well, Casey made a sandbox in our backyard which Augie has been enjoying. He mostly likes it when we build him a castle to destroy. He's also thinking about walking. He'll stand for a few seconds on his own, and he walks around the living room by hanging onto furniture. He's also very curious about all of the things we've tried to keep him from (like electrical sockets, toilets, trash, etc), and he's pretty good at making it past our baby-proofing. He's also figured out how to open doors (some of the doorknobs in our house are very old--must be because it's such an old house and people used to be smaller, right?), and he's figured out how to take off the baby-covers for doorknobs. So each day is an adventure, and we feel triumphant at the end of each day that there have been no major catastrophes (knock on wood).

Casey and I are thinking about school now--it starts in just under a month. So we are pulling out textbooks and slowly heading towards actual work.

We hope you are all well and having fun.
Watching the River Falls Parade--this must be from the first hour because he was sleeping during hours two and three.

This is from our first and only trip to the beach this summer. Hopefully there will be at least one more.

The main goal that day was keeping the sand out of Augie's mouth. We weren't totally successsful.

Spaceman Augie!

Another trip to the zoo.

These photos are in the wrong order--but this is the popsicle--he kept coming back for more, too.

Father's Day and More

Augie in his new pool. The water was really cold this day.

Augie and Daddy together on Father's Day--he picked this book out for his dad.

grandma and grandpa's 40th anniversary party

With Grandpa.
Henry was there to play.

With Grandma--starting to get a little tired. It was a long day for Augie, but he did have fun.

The musicians.

More Summer

Watching the "JuneBug Days" parade in Baldwin.
At the parade with grandpa.
After the first bath in the big tub.

Augie likes his baths a lot. This is the first bath in the big tub.

Augie on his new car. He really does like it a lot.

Summer!

Augie was really into swinging this day.

The first ride out in the wagon! It was pretty exciting. We take it out a lot of nights after supper in hopes of pulling our little guy to sleep.

Henry attacks his mom, and Augie attacks Henry.
Henry over for a visit.

May

Augie helping his dad with the laundry.
Either this baby has been drinking or the camera caught him mid-blink--we're not sure which.

This is from Mother's Day. We went on the art tour in the Pepin area. A very nice day!

August Crawling

Well, of course Augie has changed a ton in the last two months. The first big change was when he finally popped some teeth--he had two come at the same time, and then three more showed up shortly after. We had been saying that he was teething since Christmas, so we were glad when some finally came. The next big change was that he started crawling. He was just over nine months old. Here is a video of his very first crawls. Now he is much faster--he doesn't quite have that Frankensteinian rigidity anymore.
