Spring Break!

Well, it was Spring Break this week, and it was quite eventful at our house. This is a picture of a Takin--it's from the Grizzly Coast exhibit at the zoo. We went there last Monday. The weather was wonderful; it was true Spring Break weather (in the 60's). The exhibit was also wonderful. August didn't seem to be too interested in the animals, but he did seem to like watching all of the people.

These are pictures from at the zoo too--we were just sitting outside, enjoying the sun.

This is from the next night. We had to make a trip to the emergency room with August. We went to a birthday party at our neighbors' house where August grabbed on to Kate's soda can and cut his finger on the mouth hole. It just wouldn't stop bleeding, and we didn't know what to do--band aids are a no-no as August loves to put everything in his mouth, and we weren't sure about liquid bandage. We called the triage nurse, and she told us to bring him in. He was really a trooper through it all. He didn't even seem to notice that he was bleeding. The only time he cried was when three nurses came at him to bandage him up. They just put some little sticky strips across the cut, and then bandaged it all up so he wouldn't eat the strips. It looks much worse than it was. It all came off the next day, and he was just like new.

This is August sleeping after a walk. During Spring Break, we also went to both of the grandparents' homes and a parents' group meeting where we learned that it will cost between 150,000 and 300,000 dollars for August to go to college (if August chooses to go to college). August also got a bad cold which was keeping him from sleeping very well (so much for catching up on sleep over break). Casey and Kate did get out on a date one night when grandma Phernetton came over to babysit. We got to go to a bookstore and to dinner at a German restaurant. Now we have just the regular weekend left. Auntie Sadie is maybe coming over tonight to babysit so we can go hear some Irish music downtown, but Kate has gotten Augie's cold, so we'll see what happens. Right now I think it's time for a walk down to the Coop for some cinnamon roles. Much love to you all.

February

Well, we are back at work, and already the semester is half over. Things have been going pretty well, thanks to the help of the grandparents. We are both enjoying our time at home with August, and even though we are totally insane when we each get 75 papers to grade, we wouldn't give up our time with August for anything. He's found his feet now and loves to play with them, and he's rolled over from his tummy to his back (once). Now that the weather is nice, we've been able to get outside for a few walks. August still cries whenever he sees his jacket coming, but usually if we sing, he's ok.

Although he still tips over if he forgets that he's sitting up, he's getting pretty good at doing it on his own.

This is from our first trip to the zoo. It was pretty cold that day, so we just stayed inside. The fish were Augie's favorite!

This is August in his Johnny Jump-Up--he's finally getting the hang of it and actually does some jumping. When we first got it, he just hung around in it, not really sure what to do.
