Going Back to Work

Well, I started back to school yesterday. It was as hard as I thought it would be to leave the house. Going back to work was made a little easier because the English Department has given us opposite schedules--this way we don't have to do daycare (thanks Sheri and Laura!). Casey works Mon, Wed, and Fri, and I work Tues, Wed night, and Thurs. I guess the hard part for me is just having to go back to reality, to that world beyond baby. I do know it will be good for all of us, but it's still hard. I worry about balancing everything, but it can be done--I see people do it all of the time.

In other news, August is on the verge of sitting up on his own and rolling over. He's getting pretty good at sitting with the help of our hands on his hips, but he's still a little tipsy (I can't tell if his giant diapers make things easier or harder for him).

He also has mastered the art of falling asleep on his own. This is a huge relief. We no longer have to spend hours of our day (and night) trying to get him to sleep. Now we just lay him in his bassinet for naps, and he looks out the window until he falls asleep. At night, we can put him in his crib and turn on his light show (a projector shoots pictures of flowers on the ceiling) and he watches that until he is sleeping. He still gets up at least twice a night (it's usually about three times), but now he just nurses and goes back to bed. This just sort of happened overnight, and luckily it started the week before school started again. I was pretty worried about going to school with as little sleep as I was getting. Although I'm still not getting a lot of sleep, it's much improved, and I think we will all survive just fine.

Here are some pictures from Christmas and Thanksgiving. My goal is to stay up on the blog--regular postings, but we'll see. There's something about "The best laid plans...."

Here Augie is with Grandpa--notice the resemblance?
Augie loves to talk to Grandma!
This is Christmas Eve morning at our house--in the background is the banner I made for his door. It has his name on it, and I just know he's going to love it so much that it will someday hang on his dorm room or apartment door.
